JOB
ROLES
The following is a short description of what
to expect when working in one of the following positions.
Please note the following advice IS NOT specific job descriptions
for each role. A detailed job description will be presented
at the interview stage.
General Assistants
As a shop assistant you will be required to perform a
wide variety of tasks including:
- Stock replenishment
- Trolley collection
- Completing price checks
- May include register work
- Assisting customers
- Taking deliveries |
Night Crew
As a member of the Night Crew the following is a list
of some tasks you will be asked to perform:
- Stock replenishment
- Trolley collection
- Customer service shop
- Presentation work
- Merchandising displays
*Please note our Night
Crews generally work from 6pm onwards. |
Deli Assistants
Working in our Deli as an assistant the following is a
list of some tasks you will be asked to perform:
- Slicing of meats
- General cleaning
- Serving customers
- Preparing platters |
F & V Assistants
As a F&V assistant you will be required to:
- Work with sharp knives
- Preparation of various fruits and vegetables
- Merchandising of various fruits and vegetables
- Lifting heavy boxes |
| Management Roles
Our Management are a very important part of our business
and are expected to perform many duties, the following
is just a few:
- Stock control
- Rostering opening and/or closing store for the day's
trade
- Implementation of Head Office directives
- Dealing with staff issues
- Customer service |
Apprentice Butchers
A full apprenticeship is offered in one of our meatrooms.

TRAINEESHIPS
As part of our ongoing commitment to Training
and Development of our staff, we invite all new and existing
staff to be part of the Retail Traineeship Program for Levels
II and III. Certificates II and III in Retail Operations are
nationally accredited, and are a pathway to a Diploma in Retail
Management.
BENEFITS TO YOU
Training occurs on the job (no night school). There is no
cost to you. You receive accreditation for years of experience/service
in Retail. Progression to a Diploma in Retail Management is
possible
WHAT'S INVOLVED?
A commitment for you to complete a manual, and organise assessments
with Skills Plus (our preferred Registered Training Organisation)
as required.
SELECTION CRITERIA
You must be:
A) a full time employee OR
B) a permanent part time or casual employee working
a minimum of 15 hours per week.
Staff with prior qualifications, i.e. Arts Degree/Diploma
etc., are ineligible for the Ritchies Traineeship in Retail
Operations Level II and III. Once commencing work with Ritchies
should you wish to participate in the Traineeship, please
contact Dawn Mau at Head Office or speak with your Store Manager.

HOW
TO APPLY
Vacancies arise from time to time at Ritchies
for full-time, part-time and casual positions. Many full-time
positions are advertised locally and casual positions often
become available over the holiday periods. If you are interested
in applying for a job at Ritchies, please take a copy of your
resume into your local Ritchies Store and ask to speak to
the store manager.
Remember that if you are persistent in visiting your local
store and make yourself familiar with our staff, you are more
likely to be there when the right opportunity arises.

FAQ's
Whenever you start a new job, naturally you
will have plenty of questions. Here we've answered some of
the more important ones.
How much will you
get paid?
This will depend on the job type you apply for. If you are
paid hourly, your pay is determined by the hours you work
and the skills and experience involved in your job. Jobs
are divided into various levels, each of which have different
wage rates. For more information regarding the specific

Do you get a staff
discount at Ritchies?
Yes. At Ritchies we do not have a minimum time period you
are required to work for us before you receive a discount
at our stores. Once you commence work with Ritchies you will
be issued with a Staff Discount card. This card must be presented
to the cashier in any Ritchies store BEFORE you begin your
transaction. Upon presentation of this card you will receive
a 5% discount on your goods purchased from the store.
This Staff Discount Card must be handed back
should you cease employment with Ritchies Stores.
How much holiday time
will you receive each year?
Everyone looks forward to taking time off to enjoy ourselves
on holiday. Ritchies will always do our best to meet your
holiday plans, however this must always be subject to having
enough people available to meet the needs of our customers.
This is normally not a problem if reasonable notice is given.
Your holiday allowance will be shown in hours
on your weekly payslip. The number of holiday hours you are
entitled to will depend on the number of hours you work. If
you reduce or increase the number of hours, your holiday allowance
will be adjusted accordingly.
