Clematis Fire Brigade is celebrating community contributions to its firefighting efforts.
It's received more than $47,000 towards new equipment over the past 18 years thanks to locals nominating the group for donations via the Ritchies IGA Community Benefits program. Emerald Ritchie's IGA store manager Peter Van Enk presented brigade captain Shane Miller with a plaque recognising the donations on 11 May. The cash helped the crew buy a slip-on firefighting vehicle and a forward command vehicle. “This money was much appreciated,” Mr Miller said.
“By not having to spend every weekend fundraising with sausage sizzles or running raffles, members are freed up to concentrate on training for, and responding to local emergencies.” Ritchies donates 0.5 per cent of money spent in their supermarkets and liquor stores to customers' chosen charities when they scan Community Benefits Cards at the register.
