Volunteers from the Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Glen Eira Unit (formerly Oakleigh Unit), recently conducted a fundraising and recruitment drive at Ritchies Supermarket in Bentleigh East. The twilight event held on October 24 and was a great success, with members of the public stopping to ask questions about VICSES and some choosing to make a donation to the locally based unit.
Members reflected the event was a great way to raise funds to ensure the unit can continue to provide an emergency response to flood, storm, earthquake, tsunami and other emergencies across the municipality. Volunteers enjoyed interacting with the public in a non-emergency setting and provided information on how the agency operates.
Community Benefit cards were also handed out for shoppers to use at any Ritchies store. The Community Benefit Card Program offers savings for customers and fundraising dollars for nominated organisations at the same time. Glen Eira volunteer members wish to thank the Ritchies staff and local community members for their continued support, and encourage shoppers to consider nominating Glen Eira SES as their preferred recipient organisation.
