In May 1980 Paul Darbyshire drowned off Mount Martha while trying to swim to shore from his overturned fishing boat. A public meeting was held & Mornington Community Bay Rescue Service was born.

From that fledgling beginning Volunteer Marine Rescue - VMR Mornington is now a marine rescue service recognised as the leader in volunteer marine rescue in Victoria.

Our members are dedicated, enthusiastic and have a genuine passion for the sea.
