CFA reaps Ritchies rewards
The slogan for Ritchies Supa IGA is ‘where the community benefits’. And CFA can certainly lay claim to that having received more than $2.4 million from the supermarket chain’s Community Benefits Program.
Since its inception in 1993, Ritchies has supported more than 170 CFA brigades through the program which donates a percentage of the money spent by its customers to nominated clubs, schools and charities.
While CFA is government funded, donations such as this supplement brigade funds and contribute towards the purchase of brigade-owned vehicles, equipment and the upgrade of facilities. This means brigades can spend less time fundraising for additional items and equipment and more time focusing on community engagement and education.
Dromana CFA is among the brigades to have benefitted from the program, having received more than $279,500 to date.
Captain Ben Griffiths said the ongoing support from Ritchies had assisted Dromana to purchase brigade-owned vehicles and equipment and update fire safety technologies, management systems and training facilities.
“I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of the Dromana brigade for positive impact that the Ritchies fundraising has made by allowing us to continuously support their community,” he said.
Emerald CFA Captain Paul Yandle echoed Ben’s gratitude towards Ritchies with his brigade receiving more than $196,630 in Community Benefits donations.
“The ongoing funding and support from Ritchies has allowed us to provide a better level of service to our community by allowing us to invest in new vehicles which have not only helped us in the operational work but in community education and engagement as well,” he said.
Diamond Creek CFA has also received a huge amount of support from its local Ritchies store over the years, receiving almost $110,000.
“The funding has meant the brigade has been able to meet the growing expectations of the community and it has equipped us to better service their needs on an ongoing basis,” Captain Ronald Smith said.
