FRANKSTON / PENINSULA CARERS Inc. is a charitable organization administered by a committee of management consisting of carers, business people and supporters committed to addressing the critical lack of housing for adults with an intellectual disability
Ageing parents/carers, many in their 60's, 70's and 80's are struggling physically mentally and financially to care for their adult children at home. Their greatest fear is “What will happen to my loved one when I can no longer take care of him/her or die.” The situation is now critical. All carers want a Home, a Positive Lifestyle and a Secure Future for their children - a transition from home to quality accommodation.
Our Group's Aim is to build appropriately designed and affordable housing to meet current and future needs of individuals with an intellectual disability, who will be given the opportunity to pursue a lifestyle of their choice and be part of a safe and supportive community. Respite accommodation / carer support will also be included in the overall design.
The Mornington Peninsula Shire Council is supporting the project with a grant of $200,000 together with the Tipping foundation which has provided a low interest loan of $200,000. This has enabled the group to place a deposit on a block of land in the community hub of Hastings. We are now in the process of raising funds to complete the purchase and to build the facilities. We are actively seeking a working partnership and support from both the State and Federal Governments as well the Dept of Human Services.
If you wish to make a donation towards our housing project, please contact the Association's Secretary 5983 8785.
We are thrilled to be part of the Ritchie's Community Benefit Program and if you would like to nominate us the CB number is 80674.
